The Issues

Housing Affordability

Too many people are being priced out of the communities they love, struggling to afford rent, buy a home, or stay in the neighborhoods they helped build. That’s why affordable housing is one of my top priorities.

Everyone deserves a safe, stable, and affordable place to live — whether you’re renting, buying your first home, or trying to stay in the home you’ve lived in for years. When I'm your District 13 Senator, I’ll be fighting every day to make housing more affordable and ensure Newport and Jamestown remain communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Healthcare Access

Healthcare is about more than having coverage; it’s about being able to access affordable, high-quality care close to home when you need it most. One thing that means for families in Newport and Jamestown is protecting essential services like the Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center at Newport Hospital. No family should be forced to travel off-island during a medical emergency because critical maternal healthcare services are no longer available in their community.

As healthcare costs continue to rise, I will work to ensure that care remains both accessible and affordable. Reducing local healthcare options can lead to longer travel times, added expenses, overcrowded facilities, and greater barriers for working families, seniors, and expecting parents.

Our community deserves a healthcare system that puts patients first, strengthens local access to care, and protects vital services that families rely on every day. I support efforts to increase transparency, accountability, and community input when decisions about essential healthcare services are being made.

Educational Opportunity

Education is the key to the future of Newport and Jamestown, and our young people deserve the best. Both at the State House and in the community I will be working to ensure we:

  • Recruit and retain excellent teachers

  • Prepare students for careers and college

  • Expanding mental health support for students

  • Make sure every child gets individualized support, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities

  • Address the housing affordability crisis that affects families, educators, and school enrollment

  • Fight for a more equitable school funding formula

Coastal Resilience and Environmental Sustainability

Protecting the environment is vital to our future. Climate change is real. We need to be concerned about rising sea levels, erosion, increased storm strength and intensity, and how the continued burning of fossil fuels is impacting our wallets and health. Many people struggle each month to keep up with their utility bills. All of these issues are related.

I have been, and will continue to be, a champion of investing in the development and proliferation of alternative, clean, and renewable energy sources.

Responsive, Transparent, and Accountable

We need a different approach. I know first hand how it feels to be shut out of the decision-making process and Newport and Jamestown deserve leadership that is accessible, transparent, and rooted in the community. This campaign is about building a government where people don't feel disconnected or shut out, but instead feel like they belong in the process and in the outcomes. I believe deeply that representation matters, and I’m running to bring a different approach; one centered on engagement, education, and inclusion, alongside real policy experience. Not just to pass legislation, but to help build a stronger, more participatory democracy here in Rhode Island.
